Szymon Ohm

Sung to the melody of a Yiddish folk song, the Polish song 'Szymon Ohm' was sung by a prisoner in Sachsenhausen known to us only as Leszek N. The son of a Warsaw manufacturer, Leszek fell in love in 1939 with a Jewish woman. When Warsaw's Jews were forced into the ghetto he obtained false Aryan papers for her, a crime for which he was sent to Sachsenhausen. The song describes his beloved's beauty, and makes veiled references to her death in the ghetto.
