'Die Lebenden Steine' (The Living Stones) was a phrase used to describe the prisoners of Mauthausen-Gusen, who were subjected to back-breaking labour in the quarries surrounding the camp. The lyrics were written by Włodzimierz Wnuk in 1941, and set to music by Aleksander Kulisiewicz in Sachsenhausen in 1943.
